Biography
George McLachlan was born in Victoria, British Columbia. He received his early training at the Vancouver School of Art and the Chicago Academy of Fine Art. After additional training in San Francisco he returned to Vancouver where he began freelancing in illustration and design.
All this time he has been an avid painter. Although his work encompasses a wide range of media (watercolour, acrylic, gouache and mixed media) he usually lets the subject dictate the painting technique.
His work reflects a fine sense of colour, design, composition and his wide variety of subjects capture a liquid freshness as a result of many trips up and down the BC Coast, the Interior of BC, eastern Canada, California, Great Britain and Ireland.
George has a studio in North Vancouver where he has lived for more than 50 years. He was well known in Vancouver for his work in illustration where he taught at Douglas College and Capilano College. Recently he has semi-retired from the commercial illustration field, allowing more time to paint. He is represented in many private collections in BC, eastern Canada, California and the UK.
